I enjoy and practice CCRT. Luborsky is a master and this book is helpful in understanding his theory and treatment.

About the Author

Dr. Nelly S. Toll came to America in 1951. She holds a master's degree in art and art history and education from Rutgers University, has studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. She has exhibited her adult work widely and has taught both art and art history. Dr. Toll also holds a master's degree in counseling from Glassboro College and a degree in art therapy from Hahnemann University; she has combined both fields as a counselor working with young people.     Her sixty-four watercolor paintings from the thirteen months she spent in hiding in Poland during World War II have been shown around the world. Eight ar in the permanent collection of the Yad Vashem Museum in Israel.     She is also the co-author of a play based on her wartime experiences and the author of Without Surrender: Art of the Holocaust.

This book is amazing! I had the pleasure of seeing Nelly's art exhibit, as well as being able to take my students to it! I purchased 3 of these novels. I kept one. I put one in my classroom library. And I gifted one to a student. The story was remarkable. This memoir was written wonderfully and tells an amazing story.

One of the best Holocaust memoirs I have read. Contains the author's drawings from her years in hiding from the Nazis.

Nelly was brought to a Christian family to remain in hiding (Chapter 6).The Gestapo took away some of her family (Chapter 7). Nelly and her Mom would escape to Hungary with the help of a German major (Chapter 8). They hid in a swamp when a German “action” shot all the Jews they found. That trip to Hungary was a hoax! They returned home (Chapter 9). They found a hiding place at a neighbor’s bungalow. Nelly and her Mom escaped in the Spring of 1943 (Chapter 10). They had a “secret window” where they could hide. The couple hiding them had family problems (Chapter 11). Nelly was given watercolors, a brush, and paper to keep her busy. Her father came for a visit (Chapter 12). There was a surprise raid that was put off due to lack of a key.Nelly got scarlet fever, they could not see a doctor (Chapter 13). Their host’s family problems continued. The Spring of 1944 brought an air-raid by Russian planes (Chapter 14). Events became more dangerous. In July 1944 the Soviet Army entered Lwów (Chapter 15). But their father did not return. Nelly’s Mom learned their stored valuables had disappeared (Chapter 16). But a friend in his partisan uniform helped to find them again. Wasn't even the right book.

While this book teaches you basically the same features as the 2013 version, the assignments you are creating are completely different so unfortunately I was forced into buying this new version for my college course. I am definitely not a fan of the price but was able to get a used copy cheaper here on Amazon than my college. The book is easy to use. There are lots of screenshots and has step-by-step instructions. There are additional instructions on the side of the pages for users on a touch-screen device completing these assignments. It even explains the "Why?" of what you are doing on certain steps so you understand the purpose of what you are doing and how it contributes to the project you are working on. Upon first glance of the contents when I first received it, I immediately became overwhelmed, but once I sat down and actually started doing the work it was actually quite simple with the easy to follow directions.

About the Author

Julie Des Jardins teaches American history at Baruch College, CUNY, and writes on gender and American women. Previously, she was a lecturer at Harvard University, where she was awarded the Alan Heimert Prize for Seminar Teaching. Des Jardins has a PhD in American history from Brown University and has taught the history of gender, race, and feminism since 2000. She is also the author of Women and the Historical Enterprise in America.

This is a remarkable book that should receive more attention than it will probably get. It is a very valuable contribution to the growing literature on the history of science as well as women's history. It should be good reading for historians and women professionals in a variety of fields as well as to men in science as they interact with female associates., The theme of 'genderization of science' inevitably runs through the book but this is NOT a feminist sob story. It is a realistic analysis of the different roles women have played as scientific research in various fields advanced. It was written by an historian with a real talent for in-depth research, analysis, organization and a clear, interesting writing style. I found the book fascinating and very readable.The author defines three eras during the period from 1880 to the end of the 20th century and chose several women in each era to illustrate her points. While these eras were not distinct and blended with each other, and while there were a few exceptional female scientists along the way who did not fit the mold she describes, the general descriptions of these eras seem well defined to this reviewer (who was a participant in the middle era, from 1941-1962 and beyond.)What is most fascinating is the way in which she traces woman's roles in domestic life and child bearing and rearing from the time when it was a limiting factor in her participation in scientific research to the point where those very biological and cultural roles contribute valuable new insights, possibly even new paradigms, to many scientific fields. Many of her new insights are challenging and important. I wish she would return, analyze and report on the situation 25 years from now. Times are changing!

Used this book for an interdisciplinary course as an undergraduate, womens involvement in science. Great book for the class. The author does a great job at relaying her message of the importance of women in the field. I am currently still using the book as a reference for my graduate work.

There are so few books on women in science and this one is a winner. I use it to teach my leadership classes--it really gets into the nitty gritty of women who changed the world...

This was a fascinating read. I didn't realize that women scientists worked so long for so little, a d that it took so long to get any recognition. It seemed criminal that men took advantage of their research and it was so acceptable by the science community for this to happen.

Covers quite a bit of ground. I found it a bit disjointed at times, bouncing around. Threw a lot of names at you, which was a little tough to keep track of, especially since many of these names (unfortunately) are not familiar to us. There were a few spots where it seemed to get a bit defensive (feministic) - but can you blame the author? I did enjoy learning about these wonderful women and their accomplishments, and even I was ashamed (as a male) how they had been treated. I might also have enjoyed a bit more time and details on each subject; but I'm sure it was hard enough to unearth the facts. it certainly is an eye opener though, and a good overview of these women of science.

I found this book to be very interesting. I did not fully understand all the contributions these women had made to science, their personal lives and the advancement of their bosses/spouses. This was both eye opening and an enjoyable read.

Every day at the bookstore where I work I have to stare at the cover with a photograph of Francis Crick. I do not enjoy it. If you do not know who Francis Crick is then you should read The Madame Curie Complex. Francis Crick is only a small part (ultimately in the history of science a big part) of one of the many stories of men getting credit for women's work and great women scientists who were undermined or not recognized for their scientific successes. Extremely well written and entertaining The Madame Curie Complex will open your eyes (the book opened mine) to a slew of women in science that I had no idea about.

This was one of those random books I chose to take up a slot in my Kindle Unlimited library, but unlike so many others I've chosen that were either underwhelming or didn't get read at all before I swapped them for something else, I started this book immediately. And I am so glad I did! Briar, our kickass protagonist, is full of snark, sass, foul language, and absolute hilarity. And let's not forget, she is an absolute, earned-never-given badass. The supporting characters complement Briar so well, even in opposite ways, that the relationships in this book are fluid perfection. The story is fairly fast-paced and in-your-face, but even so, there are things that the authors hint at early on that isn't outright explained, so us readers aren't just keeping up with Briar's daily life. There is a massive yet, subtle, undertone of much going on under the surface of the town and it's supernatural occupants. I have already read the second book, and I can tell you now, it doesn't disappoint! This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites of the year!

What I liked about this story:This story had an uniqueness about with all it's twist and turns that kept me on a wild rolling coaster ride. The characters were well played within the story plot that hit all my emotional buttons and who doesn't love a story based in Louisiana with its rich, eerie,and supernatural vibe. I can't leave out the hint of Greek mythology with supernatural creatures; wolf shifters, vampires, and witches.What the story is about:The main character Briar ( I just loved that name) comes to town after two bad guys who killed her family in front of her when she was a child. She has been searching for them for revenge. As she tries to get close enough to kill them, she will find unlikely allies that have the same goal as her but with different reasons. She has brass balls along with a unique super power that she keeps hidden from others. She has been alone for some time, but she will find herself with others that's makes her want to protect them.I would recommend this book to readers who love a strong, sassy, and hilarious heroine that appeals to that wild imagination inside each of us.I've already purchased the next one so I can enjoy the wild ride that these authors have written. So hold on to your seat and get to reading this story.Happy Reading !!!!!!

I’m so very glad that number 2 in the series has already been released, and that number 3 is not far away. I was literally a bit addicted to this book! Kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. Gritty, sexy, a bit surprising and very engaging. Great addition to the genre.

Great start to the new series, I couldn't put it down until the end. Briar is a tough one, a fighter with a good cause. It does end on a hanger, but completely worth it. I enjoyed so much that I had to purchase it.

The trifecta, witches, shifters, and vampires. Plenty of misunderstandings and trust issues abound. Good characters but wanted a map. Now for 2.

This has been a great read! The plot is strong with twist and turns to hold your interest! The characters are well thought it and well written! I look forward to reading more of this series.
